DESCRIPTION AND USE

CORTROLTM IS104 is a concentrated, alkaline, liquid sulfite product which is designed to control oxygen corrosion in boilers and closed hot water systems.

Dissolved oxygen is a constant threat to the integrity of a feedwater system, an economizer, and internal boiler and condensate system surfaces. Even minor concentrations of dissolved oxygen can cause severe pitting corrosion. Because of its highly localized nature, pitting attack, caused by dissolved oxygen, can result in rapid failure of feedwater lines, econo­mizers, boiler tubes, and condensate return lines.

CORTROL IS104 controls corrosion by reacting with and removing any dissolved oxygen present in the feedwater or boiler water. In addition, it creates a reducing environment in the boiler that promotes the formation of a protective irion oxide film.

CORTROL IS104 may also be used to control oxygen corrosion in closed hot water systems where an oxy­gen scavenger program is indicated.
